Why does my house shake when a truck drives by?

Generally people report feeling vibrations caused by buses / heavy vehicles because they are travelling at too higher speed or because the road surface has defects on it. My house is a new build on a main road and it shakes whenever buses or heavy goods vehicles go past.

In this manner, what causes house vibrations?

Ductwork that has come loose from its bracketing or has not been fitted properly into vent openings in the walls or floors can create vibration. The furnace blows the air into the ducts, the duct tubing vibrates in response and the loose fittings amplify the effect, reproducing the shaking throughout the house.

Additionally, how do you stop your house from vibrating? Install fiberglass sound batts in walls and ceilings to block airborne sound waves. - Consider using insulated ductwork for your heating and cooling system. - Isolate any causes for vibration in your house. Do not allow plumbing pipes to touch framing members.

Also question is, is it normal for a building to shake?

Vibration may be caused by nearby traffic or subways, building mechanical systems, or simply normal human activity, such as walking across the floor. This vibration does not jeopardize the building's structural integrity. Consequently, there is less live loading in the building and less damping.

How do I stop my vibration from coming through the floor?

Jump up and down upstairs, and the vibrations literally travel through the floor, subfloor, joists, drywall, and then out toward your ears. Laying carpeting on floors or putting cork tiles up on the walls can muffle the noise, but you'll still be able to hear it.
