Regarding this, how do I tell what year my YORK unit is?
Old Serial Number format look like this: XBFM220710, EADM203490, and BKJM310394. 2nd and 4th digits 0 and 4 (number) is the year of manufacture. To find the year of manufacture you have to combine the 2nd digits with the 4th digits.

The date of production/manufacture or age of Mitsubishi® HVAC equipment can be determined from the serial number located on the data plate. Various serial number styles/formats have been encountered. The two styles we have listed will code the year of manufacture in the first digit.
In this regard, how do I tell how old my HVAC is?
Go to the outside cabinet of the air conditioning system. You'll find a metal nameplate attached to it containing the system's technical specs. On most units, the nameplate is fixed to the backside of the cabinet. Near the top of the nameplate you should see the manufacturer's date as a month and year.
What tonnage is my YORK air conditioner?
For York, you should look for first two numbers in the model number. They are divisible by 6 or 12, which represent the nominal BTU of the system in thousands. A ton of air conditioning equals 12,000 BTU, and 48 divided by 12 equals 4, so the data plate below indicates the system is 4 tons.
