Does clear coat change color?
Also know, does clear coat make paint darker?
Yes, clearcoat will darken it up a little. For something that will be on the front end of your car, I'd use at least 4-5 coats of clear, especially if you want it to look as shiny as the rest of the car.
Also, can you clear coat over clear coat? A: Clear coat can be applied over existing clear coat, as long as it is in good condition. If old clear coat is de-laminating, or otherwise damaged, it is best to remove it all and start over with a base coat. Urethane clears bond to the base coat while it is still drying.
Herein, does clear coat make paint shiny?
Once clear coat is applied you need to sand it with low grit wet and dry sand paper and then rub it out with low grit rubbing compound. This is how you will get it to shine. You will want to get some of this sandpaper in 1000 to 3000 grit levels as well as some rubbing and polishing compound.
Is clear coat necessary?
Clear top coats are not always required but they do have benefits such as, increased durability as well as providing increased color depth. They can be applied to just about any color and are commonly used to alter gloss levels or in the case of clear metallic powders, add some sparkle or contrast to solid tone colors.
