Do you need insulation under Hardie siding?
Just so, should you put insulation under vinyl siding?
Improved Moisture Control By installing insulation on the outside of the framing it causes the location of the dew point to move to the outside of the wall assembly. This reduces the likelihood of condensation within the wall cavity. The exterior insulation also helps keep the siding (all vinyl siding leaks!)
Additionally, how do you insulate under siding? There are three primary ways to add insulation to a home when siding is installed:
- Blow insulation into the cavity.
- Add flat rigid insulation to the wall before the siding is installed.
- Install insulated vinyl siding.
Similarly, what goes under Hardieboard?
An OSB, or any T&G exterior sheathing with properly installed and taped Tyvec or a house brand wrap also works very well.
How much does it cost to replace siding with Hardie board?
On average Hardie board siding costs $10 per square foot. For a 1,200 square foot exterior wall it would cost around $12,000 to install. However, it may be the last siding you install on the home in your lifetime, so it's a smart choice for nearly any homeowner.
