Can varnish be tinted?
Considering this, does varnish come in colors?
Varnish has little or no color and has no added pigment as opposed to paint or wood stain which contains pigment. However, some varnish products are marketed as a combined stain and varnish. There are many different compositions that achieve a varnish effect when applied.
can polyurethane be tinted? Applying tinted polyurethane over stained wood deepens the color. You might not have ever considered adding tint to polyurethane, but it's an effective way to make a semitransparent topcoat for furniture, woodwork and floors.
Regarding this, can wood stain be tinted?
Use pigment-based tint with water-based or oil-based wood stains. As a base, use a clear wood stain or a pre-tinted wood stain. Mix the tint thoroughly to add or deepen the color. Pigment-based tints are not easy to correct, so be sure to test the stain in an inconspicuous spot before applying to the full surface.
Does clear varnish darken wood?
The difference is that they will slightly darken the colour of the wood, applying a little water to the wood will give you an indication of the final finish. We have had samples of varnishes that claim to keep the wood "Looking exactly as it is before applying the varnish" but they don't actually work.
